Gemma Smith is National Grid Renewables' Vice President of SHE (Safety, Health, Environment), Risk and Compliance. Gemma develops, manages and continually improves National Grid Renewables' EHS and Training programs to support National Grid Renewables' goal of zero injuries to the National Grid Renewables team and their contractors. In addition, Gemma is responsible for implementing National Grid's Responsible Business Charter which commits to National Grid to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, supporting our communities through volunteering, and create a diverse and inclusive working environment. Gemma also supports risk and compliance effort across the Renewables’ organization. Gemma has been with National Grid (previously Geronimo Energy) since 2018. Gemma has over 15 years of experience managing EHS and training programs.
Gemma is the chair of the Clean Energy EHS Standards Committee which is developing ANSI safety standards for the clean energy industry. Gemma holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University. In her personal life, Gemma has been volunteering for Destination Imagination (a STEAM focused creative problem solving program for students) for over 20 years, and currently serves as the program’s International Challenge Master for the Technical Challenge.
