Program Manager – SEMS Audit & Good Practices Center for Offshore Safety Houston, Texas
Presentation Description: Industry response to the Deepwater Horizon incident was to formally embrace Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS) in the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). The Center for Offshore Safety (COS) coordinates industry exchange of data and good practices to improve performance and promote confidence in responsible operations through third-party evaluation.
The U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) has had oversight of Safety and Environmental Systems for offshore oil & natural gas since 2011. Now that it appears BSEE will have oversight of the same for Offshore Wind, this presents a great opportunity for the Center for Offshore Safety to share what’s been learned from the oil and natural gas industry’s 12 years of experience with implementation and auditing of safety and environmental management systems as well as conformance with BSEE regulations.
Attendees will learn about the Center for Offshore Safety, its data collection and reporting programs, development of good practices for implementation of Safety Management Systems, and the accreditation program for independent third-party safety management system audit providers. Access to COS Reports, good practices, and incident learnings are available at no cost.
